Fire chiefs, business owners, county hospital directors, sheriffs, activists, residents, and commissioners developed my plan to lower costs.
According to fire chiefs around the state, Oregon should be spending 15-20 times more on fire prevention than we do today.
That’s why insurance rates rise 30-40% EACH YEAR and rents are sky high.
I will institute Oregon’s first Home Hardening Task Force: a team of experts will go door to door coaching homeowners on how to reduce fire risk at their homes.
Do you know about the 3 defensible space zones? What about ladder fuel? What’s the ideal vent covering width? Knowing this can lower your costs and save your home.
Reduce Wildfire Risks and Costs
Childcare, Education, and Micro Business Tax Credits
I will pass tax credits worth up to $5,000 for people who live in rural Oregon and work in childcare, education, or own a micro business.
Credits like these work. When the Rural Practitioner Tax Credit was initiated, it ushered in a wave of talented medical workers in rural Oregon who seized upon the $5,000 tax credit.
Childcare is too hard to find. Our education systems need even more amazing teachers and staff. And small businesses are not afforded the same attention as urban small businesses.
Our small businesses are the backbone of our towns and culture here.
Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” will kick millions off Medicaid through arcane paperwork and eligibility requirements. This threatens our hospital closures and staff layoffs.
That’s why I will create the Agency of Medicaid Paperwork Support (AMPS). AMPS will help people fill out paperwork and jump through the eligibility hoops. This will ensure that as few people as possible are kicked off of Medicaid, helping people stay covered and reducing cuts to Medicaid.
This is policy that healthcare leaders throughout the Gorge have called for. Layoffs, closures, and increasing healthcare costs must be avoided at all cost.
Reduce Medicaid Cuts
On Immigration
Here’s how I will protect our immigrant and BIPOC neighbors:
1. Create a slush fund for legal fees and lost earnings while court cases play out
2. Companies must reinforce our state’s sanctuary status (immigration status is HIPAA protected, immigration officials can’t loiter in private places, etc)
3. Law enforcement can’t wear face coverings
